Improved and eNhanced Stakeholder Participation In the Reinforcement of the Electricity Grid (INSPIRE-Grid) was an EU-funded research project aimed at increasing stakeholder engagement in grid development projects, managing conflicts better, and speeding up permitting processes.

By way of an interdisciplinary approach, INSPIRE-Grid developed stakeholder-led processes and designed a European good practice guide. Methods to facilitate decision-making were newly combined with engagement tools and tested with stakeholders from existing or concluded grid development project case studies.

INSPIRE-Grid partners included: research institutes (Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico – RSE SpA, Association pour la recherché et le developpement des methods et processus industriels – ARMINES, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich – ETHZ, Institut für ZukunftsEnergieSysteme – IZES, Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung – PIK, Poliedra Centri di Conoscenza e Formazione del Politecnico di Milano – Poliedra), transmission system operators (National Grid, RTE, Statnett), and RGI.

Stephanie Bätjer is leading the Renewables Grid Initiative’s communication and event activities as Programme Manager – Communication. She is also heavily involved in RGI’s policy work and all activities that look at social engagement around grids. She previously worked in the communications team of the European Climate Foundation. Stephanie has studied at the Universities of Marburg and Hamburg, Germany, and the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. She holds degrees in political science and journalism.
