RGI and TransnetBW co-hosted the Immersive Power Conference & Fair on 29 October in Brussels to explore the exciting world of extended reality and dive into applications for energy infrastructure projects.

Developers of large-scale projects are constantly faced with the challenge of building and communicating on technically and spatially very complex structures. Transformer stations, power lines, wind parks, motorways, or railway lines are infrastructure projects that – in most cases – only exist in technical plans before they are implemented. For a long time, it has been almost impossible to perfectly visualise their actual appearance up front.

But this is changing rapidly, and together with German transmission system operator (TSO) TransnetBW, the Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) is exploring this new, extended world. On 29 October we co-hosted the Immersive Power Conference & Experience Fair on Extended Reality for Energy Infrastructure in Brussels. 

The event featured a conference programme which addressed the current status of extended reality applications, including within engagement activities. Moreover, different organisations showcased their devices and approaches to extended reality during our experience fair.

Nathália joined RGI in November 2022 as Junior Manager within the communication team. Currently, she works as Manager – Communication & Energy Systems. She is responsible for communication-related tasks, while also co-leading different activities within the Grids & Energy Systems Dimension in RGI. Her main work topics are circularity and stakeholder engagement, as well as permitting and acceleration of renewables and grid infrastructure. Previously, she worked for the private sector, as well as GIZ Brazil and the European Union’s International Urban Cooperation Program in Latin America and the Caribbeans (IUC-LAC). Nathália studied at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) in Brazil, and the University of Pécs (PTE) in Hungary. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations.

Matilde Doni joined RGI in July 2024 as a manager working on the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature. Previously, Matilde worked at RGI as Personal Assistant to the CEO from 2017 to 2020. Following this role, she gained experience in various organizations in the cultural sector in Berlin, focusing on communication and coordination roles. Matilde holds a Master’s degree in International Economics from the Berlin School of Economics and Law and a Bachelor’s degree in International Economy from the University of Trieste, Italy.
