RGI launches brochure on Community and Local Benefits

Published 18 May 2026

As building and upgrading electricity grids becomes crucial for Europe’s energy transition, community and local benefits can help address social, environmental and economic needs in a meaningful way. But what are community and local benefits and how do they need to be implemented to create positive effects?

To address these questions, RGI launched the Brochure ‘Community and Local Benefits from Electricity Grid Development’, showing the value of a more holistic approach. This publication provides key elements supporting a broader approach conceptually and in practical terms, backed by existing best practices from European grid operators, including:

Why community and local local benefits are important for accelerating grid deployment and gaining public support.

How co-creation processes between grid operators and affected communities can tailor impactful benefits to local needs.

Real-world examples of successful community engagement and benefit-sharing schemes across Europe.

By showcasing best practices and innovative approaches, the brochure aims to inspire grid developers to go beyond compliance and actively empower communities. It underscores how local ownership, inclusive decision-making, and fair compensation can turn grid projects into catalysts for social and economic development.

This publication builds on RGI’s ongoing work to embed public acceptance and engagement into the heart of grid planning. We invite stakeholders to explore these insights and join us in shaping a just and sustainable energy future.
