To reach decarbonisation goals by 2050, renewable energy infrastructure will need to scale up rapidly in the EU and worldwide.  In this process, there is a pressing need for the build-up and modernisation of electricity grid infrastructure.

Although European civil society mostly supports the energy transition, there is a knowledge gap on the different challenges of this challenging transformation. This includes the need for grid projects to be built, as well as the lack of capacity within civil society organisations to tackle to topic of electricity grids. At the same time, fostering knowledge exchange between grid operators allows for transferability of innovative solutions on social, environmental and technical challenges.

How can affected communities understand the necessity of concrete projects as part of the bigger picture of a decarbonised European energy sector? How can grid operators learn from each other to better tackle these and other challenges? These are fundamental questions that need to be addressed in order to get the support for a common development of the future grid system.
