Be it a row of swallows along a power line or a watchful raptor atop a pylon, interactions between birds and the grid are a familiar sight. Unfortunately, this relationship is not always peaceful. Indeed, without proper planning or mitigation measures, collision and electrocution with power lines can pose a real threat to some avian species. Thankfully, solutions exist.
With this new video series, we want to shine a light on some of the solution strategies out there as we continute to work towards an electricity grid which is truly ‘bird-friendly’. These include: collaboration between industry & civil society, standardised data collection & an open-data approach, and more. One such solution is RGI’s collaborative ‘Bird Portal‘ project, with German nature conservation NGO, NABU, and 7 German grid operators. You can read more about the project in English here.
