To achieve a just and sustainable transition to clean energy, we need to expand renewable energy sources and electricity grids on a global scale – while also ensuring the protection and restoration of the natural environment.
Introduction
The Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) launched GINGR: Global Initiative for Nature, Grids, and Renewables at the IUCN – Unite for Nature Pavilion at COP28 on 5 December 2023 from 10:45 to 11:45 GST.
GINGR will support governments, industries, civil society, and the financial sector in reaching their energy, climate, and biodiversity targets in a timely and symbiotic manner. To do this, the GINGR platform will provide technical assistance through a help desk for speeding up the implementation of nature-based solutions and assess efficacy against defined and agreed criteria.
