The Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature welcomes new Member: Renewables Norway

The Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature (OCEaN) warmly welcomes its newest Member: Renewables Norway, a non-profit industry organization representing around 400 companies involved in the production, distribution and trading of electricity in Norway.

Joining as OCEaN's newest Member, Renewables Norway is a non-profit industry organization representing around 400 companies involved in the production, distribution and trading of electricity in Norway. Their vision is that Norway should take a leading role as the first renewable and all-electric society in the world.

Norway's interconnections with their neighbouring countries is of vital importance for their security of supply, and it also enables the Norwegian renewable energy industry to participate actively in the European market. This is particularly important due to the fact that, most years, Norway is a net exporter of electricity. Renewables Norway is therefore working actively to improve the regulatory framework in which their member companies operate, both in Norway and in Europe.

Norwegian power production is almost 100% renewable and emission free. 95 per cent of the power production stems from the 1600 hydropower plants which are spread all across the country, and some 3,5 per cent stems from wind power. The latter is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, due to very good wind resources in Norway.

Øistein Smith Galaaen, Director of Production and Sustainability, on joining OCEaN:

"The offshore wind industry, nature and environmental organizations and grid operators must work together for Europe to meet its climate and nature goals. Development of large scale offshore wind and grids are crucial for Europe to achieve these goals. Planning in collaboration and with an ecosystem approach is the only way ahead. Renewables Norway is therefore very happy to now be part of OCEaN. Offshore wind will form a central part of Europe's energy transition and this is an important collaboration."

OCEaN welcomes Renewables Norway and looks forward to collaborating on their parallel goals!
