While formally signing the membership, Mark Foley, the CEO of EirGrid plc said: "EirGrid are very pleased to be joining the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature at a pivotal moment for the sustainable development of offshore energy – both in Ireland and around Europe. EirGrid are committed to the sustainable development of offshore grid infrastructure in harmony with safeguarding the rich maritime habitats that surround our island. Working with, and learning from, other TSOs, NGOs and wider industry, we see the potential for a collaborative approach achieving a better outcome for all."
EirGrid develops and operates the national Irish electricity grid, so that everyone has power when and where they need it. The grid takes electricity from where it is generated and delivers it to the distribution network, operated by ESB, which powers every home, business, school, hospital, factory and farm on the island. EirGrid also supplies power directly to some of Ireland’s largest energy users. They are responsible for a safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity: now, and in the future.
