Renewables are crucial to overcome the energy crisis and to achieve European climate and energy targets. Grid connectivity brings general societal benefits, such as improved flexibility and reliability, and reduced electricity costs. To determine the available RES capacities non-connected to the grid throughout Europe, as well as the reasons for lack of grid connectivity, RGI is launching a survey to be completed by July 2023.
Implementing the energy transition and addressing the current energy crisis requires capacities in renewables generation.
Related to this, the need for development and improvement on the electricity grid infrastructure has been highlighted as one of the main bottlenecks to make European climate and energy targets possible.
Grid connectivity also allows for improved flexibility and reliability, as well as reduced electricity prices, bringing benefits both to the energy sector and consumers in general. Considering these benefits, a question comes to mind: why are there projects on renewable energy sources (RES) disconnected from the grid?
To better understand which RES projects are not connected to the grid and the reasons behind the lack of connectivity, we launched the survey "European renewables capacities not connected to the grid", aimed at identifying:
We welcome inputs from different stakeholders within the energy sector. The obtained results will be discussed with ENTSO-E and selected TSOs, leading to recommendations on how to overcome bottlenecks to be drafted, published, and shared with respondents and policy makers.
