RGI welcomes new Member: ZERO - Association for the Sustainability of the Earth System

We are excited to welcome our newest Member ZERO to the RGI family. ZERO is a Portuguese environmental NGO that was established in 2015 and joined RGI in October.

Francisco Ferreira, President of the Board, on why they joined RGI:

“In the beginning of 2016, after the Paris Agreement, ZERO intensively lobbied, both the Portuguese Parliament and government, in order to develop plans to enable Portugal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Indeed, it was a successful work, with the announcement of this objective by the Prime-Minister of Portugal in COP22 in Marrakech and the consequent work towards this ambitious goal where renewable sources have to play a major role. ZERO has been instrumental by its policy and institutional work to position Portugal as one of the most ambitious country in the international context related with renewable electricity production with clear results – providing support for the Portuguese positions on interconnections, an informal target to achieve 100% renewable electricity before 2040, and carbon neutrality before 2050. With this goal in mind, RGI is a key opportunity to support us exchanging views and helping solving problems to build a more resilient energy system in line with climate change mitigation needs.”
