Renewable energies are at the core of the social and political debates on the future of our energy supply system and current system security developments. How many new grid lines are necessary and why? What happens on windy days in the grid? How can system reliability be assured while integrating high shares of renewable energies? Will the new grid system be an extension of the actual or is it necessary to build a completely new one? What electricity transmission data can and should be disclosed to enable an integrative discussion on the future grid system?
These are fundamental questions that need to be understood by all actors in order to truly support a common development of the future grid system. These general questions require a certain public disclosure of flow data. But, how much transparency is needed and possible?
17 October 2011 – As a special feature, the participants had the opportunity to visit the 380kV cable tunnel underneath Berlin after the workshop, followed by a RGI Dinner as an exclusive opportunity for informal talks and networking with other participants.
18 October 2011 –A situation with high renewable energy in-feed in the control zone of 50Hertz was simulated at the GridLab – a European Training and Research Centre for System Security in Cottbus.
