Project INSPIRE-Grid on stakeholder engagement in electricity infrastructure projects ends with final publications

Today, the consortium of the project INSPIRE-Grid that was supported by the EU's 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7) wraps up its work. With ten partners from six different countries, INSPIRE-Grid aimed at increasing stakeholder engagement in grid development projects, better manage conflicts, and speed up the permitting process. By way of an interdisciplinary approach, the consortium analysed and tested methods to facilitate decision-making and engagement tools in three different case studies in Norway and France.

Last week, project results were showcased at the “Conference on public participation – state of the art approaches to stakeholder engagement in electricity infrastructure projects” in Brussels. The event brought together researchers from all over Europe who presented and discussed their work on stakeholder engagement in the electricity sector, as well as practitioners from transmission system operators, civil society, and politics. Discussions tackled many different aspects of stakeholder engagement tools, methods, and good practices. Participants of the conference were in great agreement about the fact that different dimensions of trust – in particular interpersonal trust – between stakeholders and project managers play a decisive role for engagement processes.

The INSPIRE-Grid consortium is very thankful for the great contributions of the distinguished speakers and guests and hopes to stay in touch with everyone who has been involved in the project in one way or the other on this important topic.

Project results are accessible in different formats: a detailed report "Synthesis and recommendations", three policy briefs that summarise main findings for a non-research audience and the project brochure that gives you an overview of the different activities conducted throughout the project:
