Regulatory Landscapes Webinar: Accelerating offshore wind and nature protection in Denmark

RGI and OCEaN kicked off a new webinar series this year to understand the varied regulatory approaches of EU countries as they strive to accelerate offshore wind alongside nature protection. Our second webinar will zoom into Denmark – We'll hear from Danish experts as they outline the key policies and regulations that need to be considered in offshore wind and grid deployment and the protection of marine ecosystems.

RGI and the Offshore Coalition for Energy and Nature (OCEaN) advocate for an integrated approach to planning offshore wind, grid development, and nature conservation in European seas. This is crucial to achieve a sustainable energy transition. We emphasise the simultaneous consideration of energy targets and biodiversity goals, ensuring their incorporation into spatial planning.

Due to the urgent challenges posed by the energy, climate, and biodiversity crises, it is necessary to understanding the varied approaches of different EU Member States (MSs) in accelerating the planning and permitting of offshore wind and grid, alongside nature protection and restoration.

To address this, OCEaN has organised a webinar series which will highlight legal and regulatory frameworks within selected MSs related to offshore wind, grid and nature planning and permitting. The focus will be on understanding how they plan to accelerate and the interconnectedness of their frameworks with other European countries.

The second webinar in this series will take place on Tuesday 24 September 2024, where we'll spotlight the policies, regulations and laws shaping the Danish approach to accelerating offshore wind in tandem with nature protection.

Factsheet

After each webinar, we will distribute informative factsheets providing key insights into the topics covered by our expert speakers. We hope these factsheets will help readers understand the intricate relationships between legal, regulatory, planning and permitting aspects and how these frameworks support the realisation of sustainable energy transition goals and environmental targets in European seas.
