RGI-GREPOM workshop Protection des oiseaux le long du réseau électrique – Pour la protection de la nature et la sécurité du système électrique

On 30 May 2024, RGI, in collaboration with GREPOM (BirdLife Morocco), organised a workshop aimed at sharing experiences and knowledge with Moroccan stakeholders on bird protection around the electricity grid. This event marked a significant step in reigniting collaborative efforts, between key stakeholders such as the Moroccan national transmission system operator (ONEE), the National Water and Forestry Agency (ANEF), and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

The half-day event featured speakers from Morocco, Ireland, Austria, Jordan, Belgium, and Egypt, who shared their insights with over 20 participants. Topics included sensitivity mapping, technical solutions to reduce bird electrocution, and outstanding international examples of collaborations at national level between ministries, civil society, and grid operators. Participants engaged in productive discussions and agreed on the importance of continuing dialogue and strengthening collaboration.

GREPOM issued an open call to the grid operator, expressing their commitment to providing training to their employees on bird protection. This workshop underscored the intricate balance between grid infrastructure and bird protection, highlighting the need for ongoing cooperation.
